Fort Atkinson Memorial Park Renovation Project Completed
The City of Fort Atkinson Memorial Park Project Committee is excited to announce the completion of the Memorial Park Renovation Project and extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to making these improvements possible. Throughout 2025 and 2026, the community came together to transform and enhance Memorial Park into an even more welcoming place for residents and visitors to play, gather, and enjoy the outdoors. The completed renovations include adjustable basketball hoops, new pickleball courts, a glidealong, three activity panels, and a new park bench, along with improvements to the existing park amenities.
The project included an estimated total investment of $75,000. Over the two year period the committee received $35,200 in grants from the Winneshiek County Community Foundation, Depot Outlet, Alliant Energy, AcenTek, and ICAP. Additional support included $1,245 from pop can redemptions, $1,203 in in-kind donations, $24,913.00 from fundraising, memorials, and private donations, and $12,419 from city dirt sales. In addition to financial contributions, community members generously donated their time and materials. Volunteers contributed 111 hours during the first phase and 175 hours during the second phase, helping bring the project from an idea to a completed community asset.
“We cannot thank our community enough for the incredible support this project has received,” said Kay Schmitt, Memorial Park Project Committee Member. “From grants and private donations to memorials, in-kind contributions, fundraising efforts, and volunteer hours, every contribution played a part in making these improvements possible. This truly has been a community effort.”
The completion of the Memorial Park Renovation Project represents more than improvements to a park. It reflects what can be accomplished when a community comes together around a shared vision to create spaces that benefit everyone.
