FORT ATKINSON REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING FEBRUARY 5, 2025

 

Mayor Paul Herold called the regular meeting of the Fort Atkinson City Council to order at 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at the Fort Atkinson Community Center.  The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.  Present: K. Schmitt, P. Schmitt, Glass, Leuenberger, Schroeder.  Also present were Mayor Paul Herold, Michele Elsbernd, Greg Barta, Kerry Kleve, Jay Schwamman and Steve Kelsay.

Motion by K. Schmitt, second by Leuenberger to approve the consent agenda(minutes, claims, clerk/treasurer reports and ABD  license for Huber’s Store)  All aye, carried.

Kerry Kleve updated on the fire department truck and the need for a new updated computer.

Motion by Leuenberger, seconded by Schroeder to approve the first reading of Ordinance # 43 establishing a cemetery to the Fort Atkinson code.  Aye:  P. Schmitt, K. Schmitt, Glass, Schroeder, Leuenberger.  Motion carried.

Motion by Glass, second by K. Schmitt to approve Resolution # 399 approving cemetery fees.   Aye: Leuenberger, Schroeder, P. Schmitt, K. Schmitt, Glass.  Motion carried.

Motion by Schroeder, second by Leuenberger to re-appoint Jay Schwamman and Gerald Schmitt to the Historic Preservation Commission with terms ending 12/31/28.  All aye, carried.

Budget items were discussed, motion by P. Schmitt, second by Glass to approve funding as requested for NE Ia Housing Trust Fund, NEICAC, Winneshiek County Development and Helping Services.  All aye, carried.

There were no building permits submitted.

Greg Barta reported he has been working on updating the cemetery records.

Leuenberger stated he felt the city should have a contingency plan for future projects.

The budget was discussed briefly.  It was noted that the next meeting would be on Monday, March 3, 2025 to comply with the max levy requirements.

Steve Kelsay updated the council on county activities and stated that our area senator Mike Klimesh had been awarded the “friend of the county” award at the ISACS meeting in Des Moines.

Motion by K. Schmitt, second by Leuenberger to adjourn.  All aye, meeting adjourned at 6:39 P.M.
