The City Clerk administered the Oath of Office to newly elected council members Amber Futrell and Paul Eich.   Welcome!

Carl Schmitt was present to discuss the 28E agreement between the City and the Fire Department.   He presented a draft of the proposed agreement for the council to review for action at the January meeting.   Ron Franzen was present representing the fire department. He stated that the election of a fire chief has been postponed due to the current circumstances but would be held in the next couple of months  In the interim the assistant chiefs Keith Herold and Jay Schwamman would be in charge.  Also mentioned was the LOSAF program thru the Iowa Firefighters Assn.  The city will work with the department on this award program.

City Maintenance Greg Barta passed out quotes he had received for the possible new city pickup and plow. The current truck is a 2011.

The clerk stated that the Wellmark Insurance premium for Greg Barta was going up.  She has researched options and it was the consensus of the council to renew the current policy and the new quoted price.  The clerk also stated she wished to set up budget planning to discuss the funding and options for the pickup, street projects and other needed items.  The meeting will be held after the regular January 7, 2026 council meeting. Information was shared on the UERPC legislative forum and the Municipal Leadership Academy.

Oak Hill Cemetery was discussed a meeting with the board and the city will be scheduled in the near future.

House Numbering was discussed.  All buildings need to have a visible house number displayed per State Code.  This is for the home owner safety so emergency personnel can find the location if needed.   A notice will be placed on the next water bill as a reminder.  Yellow no parking designations on Hwy 24 were discussed.   A reminder that State Code prohibits the dispensing of manure within the city limits and that farm equipment is not exempt from the weight limit on city streets.

The City expressed their sincere condolences to the family of fire chief Kerry Kleve.

  1. Schmitt updated on the status of the park update and the need to discuss the next step.

Motion by K. Schmitt, second by Leuenberger to adjourn.  All aye, motion carried.  Meeting adjourned at 6:38 P.M.
