Sean Snyder, Winneshiek County Emergency Management was present to update the council on the river gauge issue.  He explained his budget now can’t absorb all the costs associated with the gauges.  He is inquiring if the city could contribute funds toward the cost to retain these gauges.   The council will take this into consideration for the next years budget.

Motion by K. Schmitt, second by P. Schmitt to approve the second reading of Ordinance # 50 regarding sewer improvement fees.   Aye: P. Schmitt, Leuenberger, Eich, K. Schmitt.  Motion carried.

Gerald Krivachek was present to explain a sewer issue at his shop building.  It is the owner’s responsibility to hook up and maintain the line from the city main to the building. Everyone was required to hook up to city sewer at the time of installation in 1981 and 1982 with the system becoming operational in 1983.

Present were Donald Krivachek and Elizabeth Brandt to update the council on their requested building permit for storage units.  Council stated that we really need housing and that it would be nice if homes could be built there.   Elizabeth Brandt stated that they would be interested in building housing also because there is space to do both.  Motion by Eich, second by Leuenberger to approve the building permit pending approval of measurements regarding setbacks.  All aye, motion carried.

Barta reported that the dump truck had been repaired and it is now in Cresco waiting to complete repairs. The new pickup has arrived,  the plow has been installed and due to be lettered next week.  Options to sell the old city pick-up were discussed.  He stated he will need running boards, a toolbox and some additional safety lighting.     He also explained to the council that he feels the river gauges are important to Fort Atkinson and he checks them regularly when flooding is expected.

Parking of semis on or adjacent to the city streets was discussed due to a complaint.

Motion by K. Schmitt, second by P. Schmitt to adjourn.   All aye, motion carried.  Meeting adjourned at 7:32 P.M.
