No building or other structure shall be erected or altered within the City without first applying for a permit. A permit is required for work such as new homes, additions, decks, porches, garages, accessory buildings, or for work that would change the outside dimensions of an existing building. A permit is not required for interior remodeling, roofing, window replacement or siding a building. Fences do not require a building permit, but must follow the guidelines established in the City's Code of Ordinances 155.24 Fences. A sidewalk permit is needed for maintenance or repair to existing boulevard sidewalks located in the city right-of-way adjacent to your property. The Council reviews and approves these applications at no charge. A sidewalk permit is necessary to make modifications to existing boulevard sidewalks and for putting boulevard sidewalk in where none had existed. An application to connect a new water service from the main to your property will need to be approved by the City Council. The connection fee within the city limits is $100.00. Because odors and emissions resulting from the use of outdoor furnaces can be detrimental to public health and may deprive neighbors of the enjoyment of their property, the City Council is requiring a permit be obtained so the installation of these outdoor furnaces can be monitored. The building permit form will be used to apply for an outdoor furnace permit and will need to be approved by the City Council. The cost of the permit is $35.00
